Class Descriptions
COMBINATION CLASSES
Creative Dance (Age 3-5) ~ An introduction to the 5 basic ballet positions of the feet and arms and how to move thru them to music. Some beginning tumbling, basic tap steps and learning rhythm, coordination, musicality and stretching.
Combo 5 (Age 5-6) ~ Continuing to build the ballet and tap vocabulary with more movement. Introduction to basic Jazz steps.
BALLET CLASSES
Beginning Ballet (Age 5-7) ~ Building ballet vocabulary and starting to combine steps together. Learning directions of the body and accelerating basic steps.
Ballet 1 (Age 6-8) ~ (2 year syllabus) Must have previous ballet training to start. Breaking down basics and starting to figure out how basic bare work is connected to complicated center work.
Ballet 2 (Age 8-10) ~ (2 year syllabus) Must have completed and mastered Ballet 1 work. Accelerating Ballet 1 work, adding more intermediate steps, pre-pointe work and starting to reverse steps.
Ballet 3 (Age 9 up) ~ (2 year syllabus) Review and perfect all basic and intermediate vocabulary with strength and control. Continue pre-pointe work, and girls may begin pointe ONLY with teacher recommendation.
Ballet 4 (Age 11 up) ~ Continue perfecting basic and intermediate vocabulary. Working on advanced steps, strengthening pointe work for girls, and beginning partnering. Learning some advanced repertoire.
Ballet 5 (Age 13 up) ~ Must have mastered basic, intermediate, and advanced vocabulary. Girls must have strong pointe work. Perfecting control, and learning professional repertoire. More intermediate / advanced partnering.
JAZZ CLASSES
Beginning Jazz/Tap (Age 5-7) – For beginning students, instruction in the fundamentals of Jazz/Tap as well as beginning terminology and movements; should be taken in conjunction with a ballet class.
Jazz 1a & 1b (Age 6-8) – For students with previous jazz or ballet training who are familiar with beginning positions and terminology; should be taking a ballet class simultaneously. (2yr. Syllabus: First year students 1a, Second year students 1b)
Jazz 2a & 2b (Age 8-10) – For students who have mastered J1 and/or B1 skills; emphasis on flexibility and strength; ballet should be taken simultaneously. (2yr. Syllabus: First year students 2a, Second year student 2b)
Jazz 3 (Age 9 up) – An 1.15 hour class for those who have mastered J2 skills; concentrates on technique, flexibility, control and strength. (2yr. Syllabus)
Jazz 4 (Age 11 up) – An 1.15 hour class for those who have mastered J3 skills; concentrates on technique, control and memory.
Jazz 5 ( Age 13 up) –An 1.5 hour class for those who have advanced level skills.
Teen Jazz (Age 13 up) – An open class for those who have a desire to learn more about Jazz movement.
TAP CLASSES
Tap 1 (Average Age 8) - Must have basic knowledge of beginning tap skills such as shuffles, flaps, etc.
Tap 2 (Average Age 11) - Must know basic beginning tap terminology and able to execute lindys, timesteps, buffalos and basic tap turns. Should be able to mimic simple rhythm patterns.
Tap 3 (Average Age 12) - Must have good knowledge of tap terminology and be able to execute all basic tap steps as well as maxiford and cramproll turns, drawbacks and riffs. Should be able to mimic intermediate level rhythm patterns and combinations.
Tap 4 (Average Age 13) - This is an intermediate/advanced level. You must be evaluated before attending this class and be able to execute wings, pullbacks, graboffs and pull turns. You should be able to improv and mimic intricate rhythm patterns and combinations.
Tap 5 (Average Age 16) - Advanced level rhythm tappers only. You must have approval to attend this class.
HIPHOP CLASSES
Beg. HipHop (Average Age 10) - Funky, street jazz open to all ages.
Int. HipHop (Average Age 12) - Funky, street jazz for those with some experience in dance.
Adv. HipHop (Average Age 15) - High level of funky, street jazz for those with dance experience.
